Our P.E. class has been very active, to say the least. We have been working out most mornings with boot camps, running, leg strengthening, core strengthening, and stretching. We have been hiking and walking, as well. Yesterday morning Rhea taught an hour-long yoga class, which was incredibly powerful and relaxing. On the agenda this morning was an exciting game of ultimate Frisbee. Although many mornings are rather early, it feels good to get our bodies moving and the sweat flowing to start off our days. The girls are perseverant and have great attitudes during our workouts. Each girl has been setting P.E. goals and working to attain them. As the semester goes on, we will continue to strengthen our bodes so that they are strong for our treks throughout the Andes.
Another component to P.E. is Independent Life (iLife), where we learn different tools and use resources to help us in our "real world" lives as we become independent, both during and after The Traveling School. During our iLife classes, we meet with our mentor-mentee groups to create a small community to talk, ask, and answer questions. Yesterday the girls learned about how to create and keep a budget. Other subjects we have covereed in iLife include reading strategies and women's health. This class is an opportunity for the students to learn very useful tools in life. All of the teachers are here to guide them and have conversations on how to lead a healthy life.
Until next time!
Phoebe and Jenae
